SUMMER GALA 2007

JACQUELINE BISSET: 2007 SUMMER GALA HONOREE

The Chicago International Film Festival honored international film star Jacqueline Bisset with the Gold Hugo Award for Career Achievement during its Summer Gala at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers, 301 E. North Water Street, on Saturday, July 14, 2007. LaSalle Bank was the Evening Sponsor of the 43rd Chicago International Film Festival Summer Gala, which attracted over 600 guests.

Guests enjoyed a cocktail reception with Ms. Bissetoutside the Grand Ballroom of the hotel, surrounded by a plethora of items up for silent auction, including autographed film and sports memorabilia, art and home décor accessories, and entertainment packages and getaways. Guests were also invited to join in a live auction featuring such prizes as a Rolling Stones-autographed guitar; a brunch for 25 at the Driehaus estate in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin; and two business class seats via American Airlines, non-stop from Chicago to the fabulous Grant Hyatt Shanghai in Shanghai, China.

After a reflection on Ms. Bisset’s career, hosted by Bill Kurtis and including film clips of her entire life as an actress, and heartfelt tributes by Roger Ebert and director/producer Ted Kotcheff, the Chicago International Film Festival and its Founder & Artistic Director Michael Kutza presented Ms. Bisset with a Gold Hugo Award for Career Achievement. Said Ebert, via a voice simulator, “I wouldn’t miss being part of the Festival’s Summer Gala and honoring Jacqueline Bisset.” The evening concluded with a raffled-off weekend rental of a Bentley from Bentley Gold Coast, followed by music and dancing by Ajacks Music Mania.

Co-chairs for the evening were John Carroll, President and Group Publisher, Modern Luxury and CS; and Judy Niedermaier of Niedermaier Furniture. Sponsors included LaSalle Bank, American Airlines, Bentley Gold Coast, The Illinois Film Office, CS Magazine, Stella Artois, Park Hyatt Hotels, HPNOTIQ, and PAMA Pomegranate Liquor.

The proceeds from the Summer Gala benefit the year-round programs of Cinema/Chicago, the presenter of the annual Chicago International Film Festival. The three main components of the outreach programs are the Educational Program, the Program for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students and the International Connections Program. Cinema/Chicago is a not-for-profit cultural and educational organization dedicated to fostering better communication between people of diverse cultures through the art of the moving image.
