Special Guests: Marc Forster, Khaled Hosseini, Khalid Abdalla

Join us as we welcome The Kite Runner's Golden Globe®-nominated director, Marc Forster (Stranger Than Fiction, Finding Neverland, Monster's Ball), on the red carpet at the historic Chicago Theatre for the most glamorous night in Chicago!

Based on Khaled Hosseini’s acclaimed bestseller, The Kite Runner is a profoundly emotional tale of friendship, family, devastating mistakes, and redeeming love. In a divided country on the verge of war, two childhood friends, Amir and Hassan, are torn apart forever after a fearful act of betrayal. Now, after 20 years in America, Amir returns to a perilous Afghanistan under the Taliban’s iron-fisted rule to face the secrets that still haunt him and take one last daring chance to set things right.

Roger Ebert doesn't just write about the movies—he is the movies. We are proud to honor the man who, for more than 40 years, has been the face (and the thumb) of film criticism.

As Chicago Sun-Times' film critic, Roger's reviews are syndicated in more than 200 papers, and Ebert & Roper appears on more than 200 TV stations. Roger is the first film critic to receive a Pulitzer Prize and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He is the author of 15 books, and in 1999 he launched the annual "Roger Ebert's Overlooked Film Festival." Roger has been an integral part of the Festival since its earliest days. "It was at the Chicago International Film Festival that I first saw films by Scorsese, Fassbinder, Nava, and other future giants," Roger has said. "It is an important festival, one of the oldest film festivals in America, and is an adornment to our city."

Join us on Opening Night as we celebrate the man who changed the way we watch movies.
