Competitions Cinema/Chicago annually expands its competitions to include almost all facets of visual and media arts.
The annual CHICAGO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL, now in its fourth decade, is the oldest competitive international film festival in the U.S. Many of the films shown to the public in the Film Festival participate in a number of competitions including those for feature films, short films, animation and experimental films. This year, the Festival has broadened its rules to allow submissions for works completed on video as well as film.
This year as a parallel event to the annual Chicago International Film Festival, DOCUFEST has been created to expand upon the number of documentaries that we have traditionally shown at the Festival. Feature length documentaries (60 min. and over) chosen to participate in our DOCUFEST competition will be jugded during the dates of the Festival at public Festival screenings. A jury comprised of documentary film professtionals will assemble in Chicago to judge these films. Short (under 60min.) and student documentaries will be judged and awarded before the dates of the Festival and will be presented in programs during the Festival. Juries comprised of established film and video professionals experienced in documentary filmmaking will assemble to review and judge the entries submitted.
INTERCOM, the International Communications Film & Video Competition is a competitive event for corporate, industrial and sponsored films, videos and interactive media held annually in the late spring. This competition was set up to honor those corporate & sponsored productions that display ingenuity, creativity and enormous amounts of talent.
Finally, late in each year, a call for entries is made for TV FEST, The Chicago International Television Competition. This is a privately judged contest for works produced exclusively for broadcast on television, including documentaries, dramatic series, productions for children and television commercials.
For all the competitions - the CHICAGO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL, DOCUFEST, INTERCOM, and TV FEST- the highest honor is the Gold Hugo, a standard of excellence in the film world and a prestigious symbol of discovery.
