FREE FIELD TRIPS!

Cinema/Chicago provides free field trips for Chicago Public High School students!

Our Education Program gives Chicago teens the opportunity to view one-of-a-kind films and meet film professionals from around the world. We organize over 20 daytime field trip events for thousands of high school students throughout each school year.

The films we screen cover a wide variety of genres including: foreign classics, historical documentaries, and international new releases. With the help of our Advisory Committee, we choose films that relate to CPS curriculum, expose students to new cultures/languages, and engage audiences in debate and discussion like so many of today’s Hollywood blockbusters cannot. At every screening, students meet special guests – film directors, actors, producers, critics, documentary subjects, etc. – and are able to ask questions pertaining to the films they see.

Best of all, we arrange and provide free bus transportation for the students to and from the participating theatres! Cinema/Chicago also supplies study guides to prepare teachers and students for screenings, ensuring that everyone gets the most out of our field trips.

See Films and Study Guides for a listing of the most recent movies we have screened for students, and use the study guides that accompany them in your class.

Cinema/Chicago’s Education Program also has a special Program for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students that exposes film to an audience often left out of the movie-going experience.

“The film was very powerful and touched on many issues/themes that we study in class. I also think that it is imperative that our students are exposed to the struggles others in the world face.”
- Carol Moran, teacher, Chicago Military Academy, Bronzeville on AMANDLA!

“It was my first field trip and it was fun, interesting and educational! Thanks for inviting us to see this movie! It shows the truth about immigrants and the problems that they have to confront to get here."
- Jazmin Sanchez, student, Schurz HS on THE NEW AMERICANS

The Education Program is made possible in part by a grant from the Polk Brothers Foundation.
